# crond stop problem

I am trying to stop crond service and look at the dasboard screen. However When I type this command: /etc/init.d/crond stop ----\> bash: /etc/init.d/crond: there are no file or directory like this. I have looked into directory /etc/init.d and I could not see crond service. I saw cron service. then I have tried /etc/init.d/cron stop. I got the following message:

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)  
utility, e.g. service cron stop

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an  
Upstart job, you may also use the stop(8) utility, e.g. stop cron

Then, I have tried service cron stop. However stop: unknown instance.
